Playing Catchup!! October's Winner, November's Roundup and December's Theme

Hi all! This holiday season seems to be shaping up to be a crazy busy one! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying a season of joy and happiness.

My apologies again for not posting the theme and roundup sooner, but other than life just being busy I don't have a lot of explanation for it. So, without further ado here are a few items to take care of.

MASQUERADE PIE WINNER: Congratulations to Catalina at Having Fun in the Kitchen! You will be the hostess for January's theme. Please email your theme choice and description to us before the end of December. Sorry for the delay in the official announcement!

NOVEMBER THEME ROUNDUP - Pumpkin with a Twist Theme! Voting is now open until December 9th.

December's Theme! Hosted by June at Sweet Therapie

HOLIDAY SPIRIT PIE
I'm betting that December is a hectic month in many of YWPWT kitchens,
so I've tried to offer lots of freedom with this one.

The challenge: Create a pie with true holiday spirit - literally.
Whether it be mulled wine, eggnog, bucks fizz or advocaat snowballs...
even office party punch will do! Whatever your country or creed,
whatever your celebrated customs might be, pick a 'poison' for your
pie that brings the holiday season to life for you.

And for any virtuous teetotallers out there (you have my admiration),
feel free to reinterpret this one as you like using any ingredients,
flavours or decorations that bring the holiday spirit out in you. For
example, you might deck your pie with boughs of holly, spice it up
with a gingerbread crust, or whip up a creamy vigin eggnog tart.

Have fun and remember - drink/bake responsibly.
Happy Holidays!

October Roundup & November Theme

So sorry for the delay in posting the roundup for October's Masquerade Pie theme! To find out what their mystery was, please follow the links! Voting will be open til Nov. 12th. Good luck!

I thought I would go ahead and announce the November theme as well (jump to the bottom for the next theme). Entries for November's theme should be emailed by the last day of November. Happy Thanksgiving!

NOVEMBER'S THEME - Pumpkin Pie with a Twist from Judy at Judy's Gross Eats:

I decided on pumpkin pie because of November and Thanksgiving and all.

But not just the usual pumpkin pie. Not the one on the Libbey's can or Grandma's or your traditional pie. I'm looking for pumpkin pie with a twist, something creative and different that would become your new tradition.

Changes in Themes, Changes in Rules - PLEASE READ - IMPORTANT!

First off, congratulations to June from Sweet Therapie who is the winner this month with her Berry Blossom pie! You will be the host for December, so please start thinking of what you would like for your theme and just email us the details by Nov. 1st.

A quick reminder for Judy of Judy's Gross Eats - your pie theme is up for November, so please email that in to us by mid-October if possible. Thanks!

As for a few changes - you probably noticed we are several days late in posting - well, we've been thinking - and have decided to try to make the deadlines easier for all of us to remember. From now on, here (and in the sidebar) will be to send in your photo, link and entry by the last day of the month. That way, the roundup can be posted within a couple of days after that. It usually takes a couple days to get it together, so if the roundup isn't posted, and it is the 1st or even 2nd of the month, email it on in to me and I'll try to get you added!

I'm going to shoot for posting the roundup by the 4th of the month at the latest, winner and new theme to be announced around the 7th. We think that will give everyone a chance to have a few more days to create their pies and hopefully an easier to remember deadline date.

If you have any questions or anything, please let us know! Thanks to all of you who participate regularly and keep us going! Though Susan and I haven't been able to participate in a while, we are thoroughly thrilled and astounded with your creativity and genius each month and love checking it out!

Thanks again and again!

NOW, on to the theme for October! It is a fun and very interesting theme that I think will be challenging, so I think we will all appreciate having until the very end of October to send in your
entry.

Hosting this month are Mary at alpineberry and Jeanette at Jeanette's Mommy Musings. This dynamic duo bring us the challenge of the Masquerade Pie - what could be more perfect for the month of Halloween! Here is how they describe the challenge:

"Masquerade Pie" - Make a pie that has a secret.

You can conceal your pie's secret identity (with a robe of dark
chocolate, maybe?) or disguise your pie as one thing when it's really
something else (like a mock apple pie deceptively made with Ritz
crackers instead of apples). You can use a mysterious, unusual or
surprising ingredient in your pie or if you're more inclined to step
out from behind the mask, you can reveal a secret recipe or technique.

Thanks and take care!

August Winner & New Theme!

Thanks everyone for coming up with such yummy, nut munching pies! It was a complete droolfest. Officially, Jacque of Daisy Lane Cakes took top honors again, but since she chose the nutty theme to statr with, she passed the honors on to the 2nd Place Pie...which happened to be a 5 way tie! So to be fair, a winner was chosen by Random.org - and that winner was JUDY of Judy's Gross Eats! So be thinking there, Judy, and get us your theme!

For our September Pie Round Up, Jenn of Piccante Dolce was the Theme-Picker-Outter---and here's what she has to say...

"As we get into the last month of summer and the last month of many (although not for me) of summer vacations, it seemed only fitting to do a vacation themed pie. This pie should be inspired by a vacation you have taken or hope to take. Whether it's reminiscent of your favorite Caribbean Vacation full of mango and pineapple or a hearty apple pie from a leaf peeping trip in the Fall or a pie that simply reminds you of the people you spent a vacation with, be creative and share your favorite vacation stories and photos along with it!"

Sounds Great Jenn!

So, get those Pie Thinking Caps on and meet us back here on September 8th. Make sure you email your links and pic by midnight on the 7th so that we can get the Round Up done on the 8th, with voting on the 9th & 10th. No excuses this month (even from me) as Labor Day Requires A Pie and we all know how to make one! Happy Baking!

July Winners & Our Nutty New Theme!

Sorry Tarts for the delay...I bet you all are having as crazy of a summer as I am! Does it seem to you that summer isn't nearl as long as t used to be? I mean, it's the middle of July already!

Congratulaions to ALL of you who paricipated in the Taste of Summer Pie Challenge - they all lookd AMAZING. But you chose your winners - and look who you chose!

Jeannette’s Lemonade Stand Pie and Mary at alpineberry’s Blueberry Hand Pies! Ladies, great job! Please get together over the next few weeks and come up with your choice of challenges for us...we're anxious to see what you think up!

Now...look what Jacque at Daisy Lane Cakes chose for our August challenge!

Nuts about Pie!!

Let’s get creative with nature’s protein and nutrient powerhouse, the humble nut. Peanuts, cashews, almonds, pecans, pistachios… whatever you chose, let’s use nuts as a prominent feature in next month’s pie. Whether it’s a nut-based shell that perfectly complements the filling, or a nut-studded filling, I can’t wait to see what all you creative bakers come up with.

Don’t forget about coconut, which is a nut too, right?

And for those with nut allergies, feel free to use substitutions… or skip the nuts and get artistic with peanut shaped crust… or whatever. Be creative! Whatever you do, have fun and we’ll see you next month!
Let's all post by August 7th, and voting will run from August 8-9th. Don't forget to send a thumbnail and permalink to your post to PiesWithThat at gmail dot com to be added to the Round Up. Anyone out there not on the Sidebar who wants to be? Please email! Can't wait to see these pies!

Anyway, here are all you superstars who did have your acts together quite nicely! Please vote for your three favorites if you participated this month. We will tally the votes by the end of tomorrow (the 10th) and announce the winner and the next theme.
